And that Lanni has 2 of them! So she and I are definitely in the same boat when it comes to not having a little girl to shop for. Desperate times call for desperate measures and this is when we must turn to our nieces! Since I'm not that artsy of a person I'm a huge fan of photo books. You know the ones where you just upload your pictures and all the work is virtually done for you? It's just soooo easy! A few years ago I experienced photo book making first hand and fell in love with it. Background info: My husband grew up on this street in Salt Lake City where each house would display these paintings in their yard at Christmas time. Each painting depicted a scene from the Christmas story with a corresponding biblical scripture. It's truly a fabulous tradition. Over the years these signs have become very worn from the elements. A few years back I took my camera and took pictures of each one. Then without my husband knowing I had them put in a photo book, because let's face it... I'm not a very good scrapbooker! At any rate it made the perfect gift and one that we will cherish in our family for years to come.

At Picaboo I recently created another photo book of our trip earlier this year to Disney World. I was able to decide on the number of pages and placement of pictures on each page.

Remember how I mentioned that I received a fabulous bag from Linea Pelle. Well, I did! Who wouldn't love to receive an item like that? It's the Vanessa Hobo in Dark Chestnut.

This bag is very fashion forward, trendy, and with a vintage feel all rolled into one. Like the other bags from Linea Pelle it's also popular in the Hollywood scene:

I actually had no idea which bag they were sending me, so it was a surprise. You all know how I just love surprises! As I opened the box I was instantly greeted by the smell of leather and I think that's a wonderful smell. The outside of the bag is so soft! It's accented with a gorgeous braided handle and just the slightest bit of fringe at the sides. The inside of the bag is spectacular as well. With the magnetic closures that are hidden within the trademark lining and the great storage pockets... this bag is one that more than fulfills its purpose. I'm half way through reading the book, "Dark Sky At Dawn" by Laurie (L.C.) Lewis. It's the first book in her "Free Men And Dreamers" series and it's awesome! I just love the author's portrayal of historical fiction and her writing style. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that it's about fictional plantation owners in the South at the start of the War of 1812; their lives, families, and secrets...with some romance thrown in! Now I do have a little confession to make. I bought the book back around the December holidays, started reading it in February, and I'm still reading it! Why the hold up? Enter the 2 year-old in my midst! What I wouldn't give for a day that I could just read ALL DAY LONG! Those days are no longer. However, believe me when I say that the first book in the series "Free Men and Dreamers" is a great one! I'm looking forward to reading many more of her books. When will I finish all of them? How about a year from now when my little boy starts preschool! Then I will be taking some all day reading days. I think after surviving the toddler years I'll deserve it. :)

Look around the room you are in right now. You see furniture, right? Probably more than just one piece of furniture, though. Am I right? After all, most homes and places have furniture inside. Going garage saling is always an adventure! :) I'll admit that it has become a guilty pleasure of mine. Whenever we are driving down the road I will suddenly see a sign for one and it takes a great deal of control to resist the urge to track down that sale! My husband always gives me this overly dramatic eye roll. Maybe I just need to be better about planning out my adventure. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who finds decorating a baby's nursery a daunting task. And no I'm still not making an announcement! :) I'm just remembering back to when we were "preparing" our little guy's room. Preparing would be the key word. I buy in bulk. Bulk toilet paper. Bulk paper towels. Bulk vitamins. Bulk soap. Bulk everything! But mostly I buy canned goods in bulk. How can I not? This way we always have food in our house...in the canned form! Who doesn't love canned goods? I mean they are they perfect items for emergency prepardness. They last forever and they are so easy to store, right? Wrong! I'm going to tell you all a little secret. It's only just a little embarrassing. I'm obsessive compulsive when it comes to expiration dates. If it's a day past the expiration then it's gone. In this house we DO NOT eat expired food! So maybe I do carry it a little to the extreme, but it's my obsession and my husband has learned to live with it. :) Back to the canned goods. Can you imagine how many I have just thrown out over the years, because they and their expiration dates get pushed to the back of the pantry? Well, now I won't have that problem since Shelf Reliance sent me their awesome Cansolidator Pantry!

This system holds 40 cans and literally rotates the cans for you! When you go to use a can just pull from the bottom and add the new cans to the top. It just half circles down and keep them all in order...by expiration date! Is that fabulous, or what? The weather is fabulous outside, so it's time for some backyard fun! Little Tikes makes toys and products that are so fun for kids. You know what I'm talking about. Ones that they love to play with and even allow you to interact together. Also, ones that at the same time give you a little bit of breathing room! We all need that from time to time believe me. Can I just tell you that my son is in backyard play heaven? And so am I! When we introduced him to it he refused to leave its side. We had people over that day for a barbeque. When it came time for our guests to go home, grandparents and aunts/uncles were leaving and our son didn't even acknowledge them. When we would tell him to say goodbye he would just say, "Water"!

In my opinion being prepared for an emergency is super important. Let me just share with you for a moment why I know this to be true. We actually lived in San Antonio when Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast. Jade Heart at Chicago Dramatists ENDED

I LOVE Chicago! I LOVE the theater! So if you team the two things together then I'm one very happy girl! Over the weekend my husband and I had the opportunity to travel up to the Windy City. We were invited up to view the world premiere of "Jade Heart" at Chicago Dramatists.

This theater has existed in Chicago for over 30 years now and very recently received acclaim when an original play from its stage opened on Broadway in NYC; "A Steady Rain". Chicago Dramatists is a charming theater. It's a smaller venue with less than 100 seats, but I loved the atmosphere. In celebration of Chicago Dramatist's 31st season a campaign has been launched to raise funding from those who are willing to donate just $31 each. This is a great way to support the Arts!

"Jade Heart" is a new production from Playwright Will Cooper and is the story of a girl who questions who she truly is. Jade was born in China, but adopted into an American family. It depicts the struggles between a single mother, her (at times) challenging daughter, and a life seemingly placed in the middle of two worlds. I think that it's the perfect time of the year for this new play to debut, because it shows the relationship between a mother and child...where the mother states that "A family isn't who births you." Through "Jade Heart" one can be reminded that regardless of cultural differences, a love between a woman and her adoptive child can grow strong. I was particularly impressed by the feeling and emotion that the actors displayed. They truly care about what they are bringing across to the audience. "Jade Heart" is running at Chicago Dramatists now through May 30th.
